Maritime Museum' Web site Located in Baltimore's Inner Harbor the Baltimore Maritime Museum's mission is to preserve, exhibit and interpret the four National Historic Landmarks, the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse, the Lightship Chesapeake, the USS Torsk and the USCGC Taney as well as their associated artifacts for the purpose of public enrichment, education, historic preservation and historic research. In 1997 the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse became part of the Baltimore Maritime Museum to be preserved for generations to come. Since 1982, the Lightship Chesapeake has been part of the museum and has continued to serve as an important link with the history of American aids to navigation. Commissioned on 16 December 1944, USS Torsk was one of only ten Tench Class fleet type submarines to see service in World War II. The USCGC Taney as one of seven Treasury/Secretary Class cutters produced for the US Coast Guard before World War II. All four landmarks are proudly displayed as part of the museum and open to the public. Take an outing to the Inner Harbor and be sure to include in the itinerary the Maritime Museum. Kids big and small will enjoy climbing aboard the vessels and looking out to the bay from atop the lighthouse. It's pure educational family fun. REVIEW
